APEI Project – Press release

On May 16th the APEI project, funded by the Italian Ministry of the Interior within the Fami program, was presented at the Frentani conference hall in Rome. The project foresees the realization of a comparative analysis on the themes of the reception of migrants and the related process of integration in the context of European arrival. In the management of the comparative analysis activities there is the involvement of associations or bodies that carry out reception activities or specific measures for the integration of migrants in their national context. The project partner countries are Germany, Greece and Turkey. National realities that have developed specific methods and regulations to activate processes of active inclusion of migrants arriving in their national contexts. The project is not limited only to the objective analysis phase of national experiences, but also tends to build a model of social integration of migrants that goes beyond the moment of acceptance, overcoming the logic of the contingent emergency of a critical moment due on the arrival of unplanned or expected migrant flows in the specific area. This model must be shared by the project partners and propose it as a Good Practice to be implemented in various European countries as horizontal and vertical mainstreaming actions at the same time. The project envisages a phase of implementation of the model and a training phase for public employees and for social or school operators who intend to promote a new dimension of interculturalism and multiculturalism in their own country. It is a project that involves Filef Basilicata and other Italian partners from Puglia, Molise and Lazio (partners in possession of adequate experience in the field of reception and integration of migrants) as a responsible partner. During the day, the individual national and European partners illustrated their experiences in the field of reception and integration of migrants, explaining that the APEI project can be a good opportunity to learn, analyze and identify common solutions for an effective integration of migrants in new national and local contexts. There have been other interventions outside the partnership that have shared the objectives of the project by identifying additional integrative actions to improve the activities that can be carried out with the project. Among these, there was the intervention by Rodolfo Ricci who explained the need to intervene even on second-generation immigrants already resident in Italy (bilingualism) by organizing linguistic and cultural training courses on the identities of individual immigrant groups; there was the speech by Franco Pittau who illustrated the evolution of the Italian legislation in favor of migrants, analyzing the current critical points with respect to the first rules issued by the Italian State; another intervention focused on the need to overcome the relationship between reception and integration but to activate increasingly inclusive processes in favor of migrants with a specific intervention program, other interventions focused on the need to overcome the current situation with actions in able to enhance the role and active function of the immigrant in the national context. The seminar ended with the establishment of a Technical Scientific Committee for the realization of the analysis and research activities.
